Laptop, gaming PC, GPU and board-level repair in Newcastle
Don't replace it until we've diagnosed it.
Remaker Space provides laptop, desktop, gaming PC, GPU, motherboard, console and board-level repair for people and businesses across Newcastle, the Hunter Valley, Maitland, Lake Macquarie and Port Stephens.
Plenty of devices that look dead are still repairable. No power, charging faults, damaged ports, liquid damage, overheating, failed components and shorted boards can often be diagnosed and fixed for far less than the cost of a replacement.
Before you throw it out, replace it, or send it to e-waste, let us assess it properly.
Repair where practical. Refurbish where possible. Recycle responsibly only when equipment genuinely can't be saved.
You wouldn't scrap the car because a wheel bearing failed. You wouldn't drop a whole new engine in over one dead spark plug. But that is exactly how the tech industry now treats your computer.
What we fix
What we repair
We diagnose, service and repair a wide range of IT equipment, including:
- Laptops
- Desktop computers
- Gaming PCs
- Motherboards
- Graphics cards and GPUs
- Mini PCs and NUC-style systems
- Consoles
- Business IT equipment
- Other computer and electronic equipment
If a device is faulty, intermittent, not powering on, overheating, not charging, shutting down, showing no display, or has already been written off elsewhere, it may still be worth assessing.
Common faults we diagnose and repair
You do not need to know exactly what has failed. Most people describe the problem by what the device is doing, and that is usually enough to start.
We commonly assess and repair no power, no charging, loose or damaged charging ports, failed USB-C charging, devices that power on then shut off, overheating, loud fans, damaged hinges, no display, gaming PCs that crash or shut down, graphics cards with no output, damaged motherboards, liquid damage, corrosion, burn marks, damaged USB, HDMI and LAN ports, impact damage, and failed previous repair attempts.
Where it's needed, we go deeper into board-level diagnosis: power fault tracing, short-circuit diagnosis, component testing, microscope inspection, thermal fault finding, connector replacement, firmware or BIOS work, and PCB-level repair.
Board-level
Board-level and component-level repair
You wouldn't scrap the car because a wheel bearing failed. You wouldn't drop a whole new engine in over one dead spark plug. But that is exactly how the tech industry now treats your computer.
A failed charging IC becomes a new motherboard. A bad MOSFET becomes a new graphics card. One blown capacitor writes off a laptop that had years left in it.
We don't think that makes sense.
At Remaker Space we diagnose the actual fault, then repair at component level where it's practical instead of replacing the whole assembly by default. We have brought laptops, motherboards and GPUs back to life where the entire problem came down to a single failed SMD part: a capacitor, a fuse, a MOSFET, a charging IC.
A component worth a few dollars should not write off a $2,000 laptop, a gaming PC, a motherboard or a graphics card.
Component-level repair takes more time, more skill and more diagnostic work than swapping assemblies. But it saves money, keeps waste out of landfill, and keeps good hardware in service for longer.
Servicing
Servicing and preventative maintenance
Not every repair is a major board-level job.
Plenty of laptops, desktops and gaming PCs fail early for one simple reason: they have never been properly cleaned, serviced or inspected. Dust build-up, clogged heatsinks, dried thermal paste, failing fans, loose hinges and poor airflow lead to overheating, shutdowns, loud fan noise and lost performance.
Our hardware service covers internal dust removal, fan and heatsink cleaning, thermal paste replacement, full cooling-system refurbishment, hinge tightening and adjustment, connector and port inspection, and storage and RAM checks. A proper service can cut overheating, quieten the fans, improve reliability and add years to the useful life of your equipment.
We also offer combined hardware and software servicing for a fuller check-up: the physical clean and inspection above, alongside software-level checks for startup issues, operating system problems, driver faults, storage health and system performance.

Board-level repairs
Quoted after diagnosis
Final cost depends on the device, the fault, the parts required and the time involved. We always quote before carrying out repair work. If a repair isn't economical, we'll tell you honestly and give you options based on what we find.
Process
Our repair process
-
Book the device in
Contact us with the device type and a description of the fault. You don't need to know what has failed. Just tell us what the device is doing.
-
We inspect and diagnose
We confirm the reported symptoms, inspect the device and carry out initial testing. If needed, we move into board-level diagnosis.
-
We quote before repair
Once we understand the fault, we give you repair options and pricing before any work proceeds.
-
We repair and test
If you accept the quote, we complete the repair or service, then test the device before it goes back to you.
-
You receive written findings
A written record of the diagnosis, the work completed and the final testing outcome.
-
If it can't be saved
If the device isn't economical to repair, we'll tell you straight. Where appropriate, equipment can be recycled responsibly through ITAR.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis, repair findings and records
Booking a device in for diagnosis gets you more than a quick guess.
You get written repair findings covering the reported symptoms, condition on receipt, diagnostic results, likely root cause, repair options, quoted pricing, parts used where applicable, work completed and final testing results. Clear information on what was found, what was done, and the outcome.
For business customers, that same record is useful for asset tracking, warranty discussions, insurance, maintenance history and internal approval.
Data recovery from dead devices
The device may be dead, but your files may not be.
In many cases, data can still be recovered from a laptop or desktop that no longer powers on. If the machine is dead but you need the files, photos, documents or business records off it, bring it in for assessment. We can usually work out whether the storage is accessible, whether the computer needs repair first, or whether deeper recovery work is required.
If the storage device itself has failed mechanically, electrically or internally, specialist recovery may be needed. If that's the case, we'll tell you.
Business
Business IT equipment repair
Remaker Space provides diagnosis, servicing and repair for business IT equipment: laptops, desktops, workstations, mini PCs, NUC-style systems, motherboards, graphics cards, business computers and other IT equipment.
Every diagnosis includes the written findings described above, which makes asset records, maintenance history, warranty discussions, insurance and internal approval a good deal simpler.
If equipment can be repaired, we quote the repair. If it's better suited to refurbishment, we explain the options. If it's genuinely end-of-life, we can direct it into responsible recycling through ITAR, with data-bearing devices handled carefully.
About
Why choose Remaker Space?
Remaker Space isn't built around replacing parts for the sake of it.
We work with IT equipment every day: failed laptops, business-grade systems, recycled equipment, donor boards, graphics cards, motherboards and component-level repairs. That's where the repair-first mindset comes from. It's habit, not marketing.
Our focus is simple:
Repair the actual fault where practical. Refurbish equipment that still has useful life. Recover value from parts where possible. Recycle responsibly only when equipment genuinely cannot be saved.
Remaker Space is run by the same team behind IT Asset Recycling (ITAR), which brings repair, refurbishment, reuse, data security and responsible recycling into one workflow.
About Remaker Space
Remaker Space grew out of the same reuse-first thinking that built ITAR.
ITAR began with a simple idea: useful technology shouldn't be treated as waste just because it has reached the end of its first life. Computers, laptops and IT equipment often still have value, whether through repair, refurbishment, parts recovery, donation, reuse or responsible recycling.
The original Remakers' Space was a hands-on workshop and community repair space; a place where equipment could be tested, repaired, refurbished, rebuilt and returned to use. The idea has since evolved. Today, Remaker Space is focused on professional repair, diagnostics, servicing and refurbishment.
Instead of a place where people come in to learn and fix their own gear, it's now the workshop where we do the remaking: diagnosing faults properly, repairing where practical, refurbishing where possible, and recycling responsibly only when equipment genuinely can't be saved.
Repair first
Repair before you replace
Before you spend hundreds or thousands of dollars replacing a laptop, gaming PC, graphics card, motherboard or console, it's worth finding out whether the actual fault can be repaired.
Some devices aren't economical to save. Some faults are too severe. Some parts are unavailable. But many devices are written off far too early. Remaker Space exists to check properly before that happens.

What to bring
Laptops: the laptop and its charger.
Desktops and gaming PCs: the tower. Let us know whether the fault happens during boot, under load, while gaming, at random, or after a recent upgrade.
Graphics cards and GPUs: the system symptoms, and whether the card has been tested in another machine.
Gaming Consoles: Power cable, HDMI cable, and a controller - we usually have these, but best to perform testing with your equipment, in case it's something simple.
Data recovery: what data you need recovered, and whether the storage device has been removed, damaged or previously assessed.
